One of the saddest things I have to do at the end of every year is "tear down" the music room. Everything must come down off the walls and off the boards - posters, borders, bulletins, cut-outs - and all equipment and instruments packed up and put into storage for the summer. This is so that the room can be cleaned for a fresh start in the fall. While I understand the necessity of this, it doesn't make the job any more pleasant. Teachers spend a lot of time setting up their rooms to make them look amazing, welcoming, and fun. This past year I thought the music room looked pretty much...perfect. And now, sadly, it looks like this:
And this:
(Students from last year will remember the music clouds. They are currently still on the walls because they were too high for me to reach to take them down! But soon they too will be gone so the walls can be cleaned.)
The only upside to all of this is that in a few weeks it'll be time for one of the HAPPIEST things I have to do at the beginning of every year: setting up the music room!! Another daunting task, but a joyful one, as it means that the music room is once again getting ready for students and getting ready for learning music! And it's an opportunity for me to make the music room look and function even better. One of my goals every year when setting up the music room is to make sure that anything I put on the walls is educational, so that no matter where the kids look, they're looking at something informative and relevent. I believe in functionality! At the same time, I believe in bright colors, "busy" but organized walls, and fun decor. So here are the "before" pictures; stay tuned for the "after" pictures!!
